Observation details
Stunning adult male, materialized among RBMEs just off the sand at the extreme Tip. In my haste to get a post out I lost the bird and eventually refound it further out where it remained. Bizarre sea duck with bluish-gray head and nape, big bright orange knob on reddish bill, whitish throat and breast, black belly, and white wing patches. Did not remain easily visible for too long and unfortunately departed to the North at some point. Pics looked better BOC, but still happy to have this record documented! A major nemesis crossed off in thrilling fashion.
