Observation details
Initially reported as Empidonax sp. with Cordilleran/Pacific-slope noted as likely possibilities during a time in which the two were still considered separate species. Photos attached below. While observing Thick-billed Kingbirds, this little flycatcher popped up onto one of the branches above the old picnic tables. Structure is that of an Empid. The peaked head, somewhat lengthy wing projection, and bold tear-drop eyering all favor Western Flycatcher. The colors are notably dull and faded, relative to "textbook" examples of the species; however, this could just be secondary to wear.
