Observation details
About 6,000' elevation. Single flock of about 20 circled twice overhead (recorded) and then presumably same flock encountered 5 minutes later down-canyon at creek water. Perched in tree above water and rotated down to water in groups of about 5. About half green female/1st year males and half red-plumaged males. Recorded there also but running water made for a noisy recording. Photo. Pines along this route: Apache, borderland pinyon, southwestern white. Audios sent in to Matt Young of Finch Research Network for help with ID to type, and he identified as "Type 2 and 4 in the first clip and type 2 in 2nd clip." Type 2/Ponderosa is usually what I record; Type 4/Douglas-Fir most common in PNW and occasionally irrupts south to AZ.
