Observation details
Conservative estimate using scope to pan across the entire lake originally was 1500. We took two doc shots as evidence of the high count. The photos show around 350 birds. I counted the individuals in the photos and had included the number in the details for each. These 2 photos only show two of the large groups we observed. There was another very dense group to the east of these two photos that was fairly close and much denser than what is shown here. There were also several hundred more birds further to the north and several hundred more towards the east that were beyond the range of the camera but could be discerned through the scope. Given the distance and how they were constantly swimming and diving, those other groups were difficult to count but we felt our original estimate was conservative. Since we cannot be 100% certain about the number, we can err on the side of caution even further and change the number to 1000.
