Observation details
Flagged as rare. Found by Bob Ringler, Kevin Graff, and Jeff Shenot on the OC CBC on 12/28/2015. This was my third try for this bird, the other attempts being 1/4/2016 and earlier this morning. I was mostly stationed along the brambles next to the feeder waiting for it to appear. The area was filled with sparrows. Around 4pm, the sparrows all seemed to disappear from the area aside from one SOSP. A pair of HOFIs moved in, followed by the LAZB, which announced its presence with a buzz call and popped up right in front of me at 4:17. It flew up into the tallest sapling in the hedgerow and perched for a bit, eventually switching perches and flying southwest into the sorghum field where I lost sight of it. After dipping twice, and hearing how uncooperative this bird was (disappearing for days at a time), I felt pretty lucky to have had such a quality view of it.
