Observation details
Part of a larger flock. Endemic to Seram Island, it overlaps both the widespread Glossy Swiftlet and similar Uniform Swiftlet on Seram. Differs from both in have whitish uppertail coverts, hard to see unless the birds are flying low which they seldom do. Whitish barely visible on the upper flank just behind the wing in this photo. Also note the more uniformly dark underparts lacking the white belly and white tail spots of Glossy Swiftlet. Previously lumped with Sulawesi Swiftlet (A. sororum) and Halmahera Swiftlet (A. infuscatus) under the name "Moluccan Swiftlet" and formerly placed in the genus "Collocalia."
