Observation details
Occupying both saltwater and freshwater pools, walking on mudflats and dabbling. Two birds observed and recorded in the middle of a large group head bobbing. A few moments later, they copulated. Perplexingly, this occurred in nonbreeding territory alongside countless other ducks in the nonbreeding season. This behaviour would not be expected for at least another few months. Perhaps their hormones were somehow off? Just an act to solidify pair bonds?
