Observation details
Continuing amazing find. Small diving bird, horizontal, hunched over posture, dark gray back, black head, pale bill, white on the sides of the neck. Wings slightly darker than the rest of the body. White visible underneath on the undertail coverts when the bird was seen diving from the back. Wings flicked upward when diving in a fashion unlike any regularly occurring species here. Decent digibin pics. In the duration of my time watching the bird, it never stopped actively diving, and worked from the near the marina to around the point towards the dam, always staying relatively close to shore. I last saw it behind the point towards the dam. Obviously an amazing experience to see the bird, but I wonder what the effects of extended time in freshwater is for them? And what mis/disorientation brought the bird here?
