Observation details
A terrific find by Keenan Y. ! The Dusky-capped Flycatcher was seen actively flycatching on the edge of a willow stand near the north end of the boardwalk. It seemed to be loosely associated with a flock of yellow-rump warblers that were also flycatching in the vicinity as well. We observed the DCFL for over 45 minutes and it stayed at the same location the entire time. ID: The DCFL was noticeably smaller in size than the Ash-throated Flycatcher that we had recently seen at the Alsea Marina area. It's bill was thin in appearance, the belly and undertail coverts were yellow but moderate in tone, the primaries and secondaries were rufous but the tail was dark graying-brown without rufous coloring. Also, while we were observing the DCFL, Keenan told us that he had heard it's distinct mournful call (descending peeur). Most of the diagnostic characteristics can be seen the photos as well.
