Observation details
Photos and details. Both adults. Was scanning the RBGU flock when I came across a sleeping Mew Gull. Took some photos and kept scanning. Eventually found a Mew Gull sitting on the water and quickly looked back to see if the other one was still there and it was. Unfortunately while I was waiting for the sleeping bird to raise its head a kayaker came by and spooked all the gulls, and I didn’t have enough time to wait to pick it out again. Before it flew I was able to get a nice look at the entire sleeping bird though, and watched it a little in flight before losing it. Both birds essentially same, although the bird on the water had slightly heavier streaking on the nape. Small Gulls with long wings, darkish mantle, bold tertial crescent, brown nape streaking, dark eye, yellow thin bill, large white window on primaries when in flight.
