Observation details
Continuing birds originally found by Jeanne Z and refound this morning by Maxine R. Finches foraging on the ground with pink lower belly and rumps. Gray top of face with black down the middle, leading to a yellow beak. Brown bodies. When we arrived to Bracketts Landing North around 1030ish we were told both birds had just flown south over the end of the ferry loading area. As I assumed, their best piece of habitat after N Bracketts would be the grassy/sandy/woodchip north end of the breakwater on Marina beach. This is exactly where they ended up being! As I walked along the north side of Marina beach, I heard finch-like calls coming from the rocks and both birds jumped up in front of me, allowing me to get nice photos, which I'll add soon. After 30 seconds the birds flew up the rocks a bit where crows spotted them and started attacking them, flushing them back north. Luckily birders at Bracketts North got back on them so we saw both birds again once more before we left. One got eaten by a Merlin and the other swooped by a Coopers Hawk after we left. *Editing observation to put them to subspecies.
