Observation details
These were chunky, short-necked shorebirds with very long bills. They were much larger than nearby Dunlins and had a hump-backed appearance while foraging. They had little barring on the flanks, not much of a pattern on the chest and neck, and plain tertials and scapulars. Long-billed Dowitchers would be more likely this late in the fall according to the eBird weekly bar charts for Durham County.
