In Ailanthus, lit by parking lot lights
Observation details
Really good bird for here given the conditions, and certainly my first for CMB (though I have tried many times). While scoping Jupiter and Saturn, I thought I could hear some very quiet whinnying from the trees at the end of the fishing access road, but excessive car activity over by La Casa Café made listening a real challenge. Eventually I crept over to that area to see if I could hear it any better. Fortunately I did! All of a sudden the EASO crashed through some vegetation and tried to take a roosting MODO! The owl was unsuccessful in its pursuit and the MODO escaped (and was very scared- you don’t need NP to confirm that!) The owl proceeded to sit up in the Ailanthus trees and gave good looks for a few minutes before flying west, towards Waterside Ave.
