Observation details
Photo. Santiago texted me a photo of this bird yesterday and I rushed to county park to see it—the sun quickly dropped behind the mountains (3:30? C’mon!!!) and the bird activity ceased. No PROW to be found. After a failed ice skating scouting mission, Mary and Eric and I beelined for County Park and the overcast skies kept bird activity to almost no movement, and even when the sun came out, there wasn’t much going on until…just as we were above to give it up and go home for some breakfast, we heard a chip and saw a bright yellow bird appear as if from thin air and fly into a poplar. So bright, it was hard to miss! We got a quick glance before it dove out of sight but we were patient and were rewarded with almost 15 minutes of close views of the bird foraging in the cottonwoods just south of the road, west of the parking lot. It then crossed the road heading north into the big willows, foraging voraciously. What a treat to start the day!
