Observation details
Wow, great bird! First seen when I noticed a lot of pigeons being put up. So large I wondered if I might have been looking at an eagle. Very long, fingered wings, broad at wing route which gave an impression of a kite, but the tail was not forked. Overall of very deep, rich and warm brown colour. Prominent gold colouration on upper side approximately around leading edge root of wing. Also very prominent wing windows, very light grey, more so on the underside. Tail appeared fan-shaped and the same very light grey underneath. The bird was then seen essentially quartering up and down about half a kilometre of avenue outside the academy where lots of Streptopelia always are. It made an unsuccessful dash for something followed by another, where it landed on the ground having caught a small bird, likely a Laughing Dove. It then flew to open desert nearby to consume its prey. I got distracted by a Persian Wheatear and did not see it again.
