Observation details
Rare* Found by Jim Sweeney yesterday. Was mucking about in the area of the initial spot - Red Cedar/Junipers/bright and constant sunshine - and had largely given up when I heard the chattering call of a Tanager, almost Carolina Wren-esque in quality. I ran back down the hill, and the bird called again, for about 30 seconds, before going silent. Ten minutes later, I stepped back into the sun and found the bird gorging on juniper berries and the occasional wasp. The bill was a carrot orange, with an overall dull wash to the entire bird, save for the vent and undertail, which were a brighter saffron yellow. It had distinct wingbars. I was quickly joined by Alan, Evan, Liana, and Clara, the bird showing well and sallying for insects/continuing to find juniper fruits.
