Observation details
Large bird standing in backyard surrounded by three squirrels. Size of a RTHA. Square head, yellow eyes. White throat patch with single line down center. Spots down whole front. Unable to see legs in grass, but in photos legs looked substantial and not pencil-like, with long large talons. Tail had varying width light & dark bands, unable to see tip of tail in grass. Finally decided to go after a squirrel and ran after it just like one of the velociraptors in Jurassic park, head down and back rolling from side to side as it ran. Eventually flew away; it wasn’t injured.
