Observation details
*High, continuing huge numbers. About 66% (2/3) of the scoter total. From about 7:35 to 7:50 multiple huge flocks started moving up and out, with several thousand heading west all at once. I also saw thousands of more distant flocks to the east that appeared to either be moving into Barnstable Harbor, or possibly looking to fly over the mainland. After the dust had settled, there was still a large raft off the beach that was content to stay there. I rough counted 6,000 birds in this raft (by 100s), with roughly the same 2/3 Surf / 1/3 Black percentage.
