Observation details
continuing bird found by Kenny Frisch; Adult male California Quail present at the Dinosaur NM Canyon Visitor Center 4/7-6/8/2018. From Gambel’s Quail by buffy-yellow forhead (GAQU forhead is black), strongly scaled nape (weaker in GAQU), heavy black “scaling” on underparts, and chestnut belly patch. “Cow“ call (“REER” call in Pieplow) spectogram can be compared with spectograms in eBird. In Pieplow, the corresponding call in Gambel’s Quail is longer, more drawn out, and can be vaguely 3-syllabled.
