Observation details
Small loon with small bill, feeding in deep water alongside larger COLO. The arc of the nape and fullness of the back of the neck gave the crown a rounded profile. The neck was extended and head held high while on the surface, and the bill remained horizontal. A sharp dark border line between the white throat and sides of the neck was obvious, in some light a faint reddish hue could be seen along the border. No "chin strap" was observed. Plumage along the back of the neck was a lighter gray than that of the rest of the back, which was dark overall. When rolling to preen the belly showed bright white. Only able to rule out ARLO by its comparative rarity.
