Observation details
215,7 Uhhhhhhh?!?!? Complete surprise is an understatement. Even after yesterday’s sighting at Montrose I had zero hopes it would show up here given that the downtown skyscrapers are known for deflecting southbound hawks to the west. Just finished counting the crow flock and began walking along the south side of the Shedd. Suddenly all the crows appeared over the Shedd with a huge hawk in the middle. Put my bins up and damn near had a heart attack. Scrambled to get my camera up and got a couple pics before it disappeared west over the Field Museum with its crow flock escort. 15-30 second total observation, so it was here and gone. Obvious dark morph buteo with very long wings (almost seabird like), white underside to the tail, and big ol gape. See pics (only edit was cropping). Relocation efforts here sadly unsuccessful, hopefully will be found again. State bird #382
