Observation details
Resembling Sandwich Tern, but with an somewhat heavier, orange bill. Rump showing same grey color tone as back, upper tail and upperwing. Dark trailing edge to primaries best seen from underneath. Flushed by a photographer approaching the bird on the sandbank. [Edit: Originally identifiued as Lesser-crested Tern Th. bengalensis. A discussion with experienced birders in the net resulted in split opinions regarding the ID, I failed to get the "jizz" right in the field in the first place... meanwhile SEO / the Spanish rarities committee has accepted this observation as T. albididorsalis, as the bird contiunued in the area and continued to be seen and photographed by others until at least early July. I copy/paste a screenshot of the related SEO - raritees report.
