Observation details
One of the more incredible birding moments of at least the last 45 minutes. After being absolutely destroyed in a card game by TS, Brent spotted an interesting looking bird out in the river. Fortunately enough, all four of us managed to get on it. It was dark and visibility was not great but we were able to, by virtue of our patience, tease out an identification after only a matter of a few seconds. After we all agreed on the identification (and cheers’d our remaining beers) we spent a while trying to photograph the bird with our iPhones. We were very successful in this regard, but photos were relatively poor as one would imagine in this scenario. Unfortunately the bird took flight spontaneously (I did not push!) and flew deep into the abyss up the river. It was very scary up there and, while we couldn’t have pursued the bird even had we wanted to, I was glad to realize we were free from watching it; the burden of which was removed all at once as if a great weight was lifted from me suddenly.
