Observation details
See introduction. Some photos of streaming birds. Between 5:00 and 5:49 I used the stopwatch on my mobile to keep track of passing birds every minute and took multiple readings to check my 1 minute count. The birds were from horizon to horizon (who knows how far beyond my field of vision) and were moving in a ESE direction at the rate of an average of 2,000 per minute. 49 min. x 2,000/min. = 98,000 birds. at 5:49 I noticed that many of the overhead streaming birds had dropped low and were coming into the preserve to roost. This occurred between 5:49 and 6:00 pm at the rate of 300 per minute (surely more than that but when flying much lower my overall field of view was significantly decreased). 11 min. x 300= 3300. Total count for the hour of counting = 98,000+ 3300= 101,330
