Note: the Short-billed Gull was wobbly as it preened. It limped as it walked from the water. Left leg seemed weaker. Several short vocalizations can be heard.
Observation details
Found by Jon Ruddy Oct 26 and still present at this location. Seen on the beach at Cobden, the Short-billed Gull was with many Ring-billed Gulls. It stood out from them by being slightly smaller and the only overall brownish gull. It is still in juvenile plumage compared to same age Ring-billed Gulls, which are in first winter plumage. Its brown scapulars and coverts are neatly edged in white. The small narrow black bill is paling at base. We watched it on the water, standing on the beach, and flying around.
