Observation details
I bird the Lake Bandini complex whenever I visit base. There are a wide variety of waterfowl that winter on these lakes. Although it was too early for most of these visitors today, I decided to stop for a look anyhow. On the lake south of 5th street I found seven geese, three white and black and four gray morphs. All initially had their heads tucked into their back feathers and were standing in one leg. On the adult birds, the black primaries extended from the tail, but were clearly not tail feathers. As I approached, one of them raised its head. It had a longer bill than a ROGO. Long Pink bill and legs distinguished them as SNGO. Photos to follow.
