Observation details
What?!? I was just watching a group of Common Loons when I noticed them looking up, which normally indicates a bird of prey overhead. I was surprised to see that they were checking out a high-flying Short-eared Owl flying overhead. Over the next 10 minutes the owl lost altitude and circled ME as I stood on “the island.” Things got spicy when some crows spotted the owl and they succeeded in chasing it off. Too bad I missed the shots of the crow dove-bombing the SEOW! It eventually circled back and landed on the island. I’d bet it’ll roost here in the sparse vegetation at least until tomorrow?
