Observation details
Rare. Continuing along Chemung River bank near Elmira. Ibis-like shorebird with decurved bill. Dark brown with white spots on neck transforming to chevrons on breast and wings. Stationary during most of observation. Moved from shelter of Knotweed along river bank to edge of river. Did not observe any foraging. Very tolerant of several observers in near proximity. A possible companion of the American Flamingo's flushed northward during recent storms? County and State bird. Thanks to Bill Ostrander for the assist. Photos.
