Observation details
This afternoon we went specifically seeking this species which I observed here in 2014. That location was unfortunately logged.
We heard one individual sing from the tall slope directly north of the guesthouse (above main path). Bushwhacked up until we were fairly close and used Papuan Pitta playback. The individual approached, but became silent about 15m away and it began raining. The bird flushed about 5m away while we were sitting and flew up about 2m and directly down slope. Unfortunately, backlit against the sky and I observed no color (PC noted seeing red). However, distinctive pitta shape and uniform wings lacking wing spot.
Recording made, but may have been spoiled by rain. No photos and no additional notes on subspecies specific color.
