Observation details
When my mother said there was a nice murder of Ravens congregating in the trees outside, naturally I was very intrigued... but no!! That wasn't quite true... the long tails... those sturdy Roman noses... the matte black colours... the longer I looked at these birds that were very clearly Currawongs, the more I became convinced that this was our property's absolute record tally of Blacks, and yet they stayed remarkably, almost eerily, silent!! They preened and primped, a couple of them hopping up and down the branches of the tree with aggressive posturing to their compatriots... one of them turned back-on long enough for me to finally see that completely black rump; there was no doubt about it!! This was an absolute record, a whole Black flock!!! It was only when the even rarer birds around here started attacking them that the Blacks all moved off en-masse, with those wild and absolutely iconic cries!!
