Observation details
Found in briar thicket along dirt road. Thought it was an immature swamp sparrow originally but the buff colored fine and neat streaking, buffy eye ring and gray eyebrow indicated this sparrow was indeed a Lincoln’s Sparrow; Swamp Sparrow lacks eye ring and has a neat white throat patch and rufous in its wings which this bird lacks. The attached photo shows the buff background streaking, white belly, pale buffy malar stripe, etc. Bird had a perky posture and was in very thick and thorny brush, also a favored habit for Lincoln’s Sparrow. Consulted with fellow birders who confirmed my finding.
