Observation details
Reported earlier by Tracey Chan and Asher Fusco. Tentatively reporting as a Western Kingbird based on consensus in the field, but will review photos and change ID if it appears to be Cassins or uncallable. Bird spent most of the time just below the top of a large beech tree on Bud Path on Central Ave, just uphill from Valley Water. Did not vocalize. Kingbird with pale grey head and pale yellow belly (baby blanket yellow, not super bright). The pale grey of the head didn't contrast sharply with the paler throat, which transitioned to yellow in a diffuse way, not a sharp line. Tail was not showing white outer tail feathers in the field, but tail appears to be molting at the edges, and also did not have a white trailing edge that would indicate Cassins. Photos show that overall this was a well-worn bird with molting feathers in tail and wings. Photos by Tripper.
