Observation details
The grouse flew over my head from the direction of the south end of the runway. I was able to watch it through the binoculars flying for 1/4 of a mile before it landed in a spruce on the east side of the pond. My first time having a good view of one flying. Very quick wing beats it seemed. The more streamline and compact body shape and white belly made me think Sharp-tailed Grouse. I left the coot and drove down to get a closer look and photograph. As I was walking away from the bird, it flew all the way to east side of the airport and landed in a 50-60 foot spruce tree. I don't think I'd seen a grouse fly that far. Exciting times! I went back to the coot to get some more photos.
