Observation details
I was photographing a Brewer's Sparrow perched high on a burn pile of downed almond trees when the sparrow suddenly dropped from sight. Within less than a second, this Sharp-shinned Hawk landed not two feet from where the Brewer's Sparrow had been perched, fully explaining its rapid disappearance. The sharpie maintained its perch for just over two minutes, constantly checking its surroundings, before taking off and soaring up and off towards the northwest.
