Observation details
Juvenile/1st cycle LBBG observed perched on boatslip, preening in water & in flight. Noticeably larger than nearby RBGU; with longer, relatively narrower & much darker wings. Overall streaky-brown plumaged, with neat pale edging & notching on the scaps, coverts, secondaries & tertials. Long, dark wingtips. Pale/pink legs. Fairly small, dark bill & flat head. In flight, the longer, narrower wings were obvious & showed virtually no pale inner primary window on a darker background. A double dark bar was visible on the secondaries & secondary coverts. The underwings were very dingy. The uppertail was barred, on a white background & a dark, wide tail band was clearly visible. Looking at the bill closely, I believe this is a male LBBG, due to large size & relatively pronounced gonydeal angle for this species. Digiscope photos attached.
