Media notes
The recording was made on a platform feeder containing black oil sunflower seeds. The phone was on the platform face up, the microphone facing toward the adjacent pine tree, to minimize loss of hopper space. Sounds heard were made by Black-capped Chickadee (up to 3 individuals), 2 different Red-breasted Nuthatches, a White-breasted Nuthatch. These sounds include vocalizations, their feet landing on the platform, taking of seed, and wingbeats as they left. The Chickadees had the loudest wingbeats. Other birds heard (who did not visit the feeder) include a nearby American Robin, a distant American Crow, and a distant Blue Jay. This recording has been normalized, but the large dynamic range of the wingbeats tends to minimize the volume of the vocalizations. At one point near the beginning, a human closes a door. Insects and light wind are also heard.
