Observation details
Large pink wading bird seen primarily foraging in the shallows of Bridge Pond for close to three hours this afternoon. Would often shuffle its feet on the bottom presumably stirring up food before submerging its head to feed. Pink legs. Yellow eyes. Heavy bill was was white at its base, pinkish-orange in the middle on its lower mandible and black at its tip while turning abruptly downward at its mid-section. This bird did not appear to be banded and is presumably one of several currently scattered up and down the east coast after the recent passage of Hurricane Idalia that formed just west of Cuba where the species is a permanent resident.
