Observation details
After seeing it very briefly on the 19th, and being too chicken to call it without proof, luckily Tony Kurz had a large tringa with a white wedge up its back fly by on the 20th, so we knew that we had a greenshank on Lake Earl and we had been trying to find it on the 21st and 22nd but luckily Tony managed to find it today. Large tringa, just slightly smaller than GRYE, with greenish gray legs, a bill a little shorter and stouter than GRYE and distinctly slightly upturned, very white underneath, especially the rear part of the flanks and tail, dark wings and back that seemed less patterned than GRYE, streaked neck except for the center area forming a white line from the bill down to the breast, streaked head a white supercilium that only stretched from the bill to the eye. When it flew, the tail appeared lightly streaked and almost white looking and a long, broad wedge going up its back. The call sounded very similar to GRYE with a slightly deeper sound. My 400th species for Del Norte County 41.84108° N, 124.20667° W
