Media notes
Recording time: 1113. Elevation (m): 680. Habitat: edge of spruce forest. Weather: cold, overcast, breezy. Sound type description: alarm. Confidence in ID: 100%. ID determined by: seen well calling. Age: first-winter. Age determined by: very worn primaries contrasting with fresher rest of plumage. Group size: 1. Description of behavior: had been perched atop a tree for many minutes, after catching and eating a mouse (probably Peromyscus sp.) in three bites; eventually flew to another perch, giving two tittering calls, the first before I got the recorder on, then this one. . Other notes: This extremely poor recording was made with the input accidentally on max, hence the breakup. I've uploaded it despite the awful quality, because it does convey the basic sound of the call, which was a short series of high quick thin notes given in flight. Could it be that no one has ever uploaded a worse recording?.
