Recording time: 1919. Elevation (m): 2525. Habitat: area of dense scrub and cardones on a gradually sloping hillside . Weather: cool, overcast. Confidence in ID: less than 100%. ID determined by: In the field I believed the Asthenes to be steinbachi due to lack of throat spot on a good view, and extensive rufous edgings to outer rectrices, much more so than shown for orbignyi in Narosky/Yzurieta, although they are depicted as similar in de la Pena and Rumboll. If latter is correct, bird could possibly be orbignyi; close match to some recordings on both XC and Bird Sounds from Southern South America, but those of both species are varied. . Group size: 1. Description of behavior: singing frequently but unpredictably as it moves rapidly from the inside of one bush to another .
