Observation details

1 Captured while opening for passerines. This is an AHY male. (confirmed by peter pyle). Age first based on shape of primaries (rounded), primary coverts (rounded/broad), patterning on p-coverts, shape and amount of white on tail (especially R3), which also makes it a male. Very subtle is the difference in quality of outer primaries vs inner primaries (hatch year birds would have uniform primaries), pointed out by Peter Pyle. Also, young/HY birds would have broad cinnamon tips on the primary coverts, whereas this bird has narrow whitish edging to p-covs.
