Observation details
1st year Bird. Found at the end of the side road while scanning for Red-necked Phalarope. First noticed by very warm tan/buff tones but larger size than nearby Buff breasted sandpipers. Seen in direct comparison with both yellowlegs and Buff breasted sandpiper. Similar size to yellowlegs. Larger than buff breasted sandpiper but similar in overall color. Dull gray/olive legs, white underparts, buffy breast and face, and darker cap observed. Straight to slightly dropped bill shorter than nearby GRYE. After observing for a couple of minutes got my camera and got a couple of very poor photos before the bird was flushed by a Merlin. In flight notes bright white u shaped rump patch. Unable to refind after a storm came through and had to head out. Glad others refound and got better photos.
