Media notes
The two immature kingfishers had been rattling back and forth while flying and perching for quite some time, but the vocalizations changed in urgency and volume while objecting to the arrival of a red-tailed hawk. (Great Blue Heron threats also audible.) Both kingfishers are heard in the recording, but only one dove at the perched juvenile red-tailed hawk, then perched near it and rattled loudly until it flew off to gain some distance. Apologies for the shutter sounds.
Observation details
Saw and heard these 2 immatures, rattling much of the time, flying over and perching near different parts of lake almost continuously during visit. Both hunted though one dove and ate much more often than the other; heard 3rd rattle in boundary woods in response to the pair at one point.
