Media notes
Recorded while the bird was moving around near the top of a red pine. It did not appear to work on any cones while I watched it. It flew off at the end. Loud noise from passing vehicles is also audible.
Observation details
Heard making emphatic, loud calls. Seen in an eastern white pine, red pine, and in flight. Audio recordings. Typical type 2 flight calls: Rapidly downward-sweeping with time with a kink near the mid frequency. Some also have a softer, even more rapidly ascending component that immediately follows the part that sweeps downward. Only evident in some of the louder calls, particularly in the second recording.
