Observation details
Flew into the island around 0600, stayed distant and left shortly; only observed from up in the lighthouse. Had difficulty interpreting some of the features in the field but studying the photos had me seriously thinking western. I sought a second opinion and Will Russel, Louis Bevier and Kyle Lima thought the photos suggested western too. The bird has pale rectrices with distinct, fine barring. r4 is partly white, and r3 has little or no white. Yellow extends into the malar region. Overall a dull bird lacking rufous in body feathers (e.g. scapulars and secondary coverts) with consistent tones throughout. More details sent to MBRC
