Observation details
MEGA*****Continuing insanity chilling on the public beach. 1st (confirmed) ABA record! Rarest bird I’ve ever seen and of course a lifer. Found in the outflow a mile and a half east of Dune Beach (see the checklist location) where it gave incredible views for an hour. Little wary of my presence but still allowed me to slowly get to within ten feet. I was going to head east but some beach goers by the parking lot who saw me with my scope said it had been hanging by their tent eating cheez its for a while before it flew west. Walked this direction when and was relived to find I in the a quiet outflow lacking a crowd. Here till 4:40 when it flew back east (landed right by by mom's beach chair) and was seen by several birders by Dune Beach. Solid slate gray. Overall had a slight brownish coloring, apart from the bluish tinted wings. Size of LAGU but more round in shape. Photos TBA
