Observation details

About the size of a ring-billed gull. Overall brown, black trim around the folded wings. White patch at rump. Smooth colouring on chest and neck. Flanks are also smoothly toned, but less brown and more a sandy/buffy note at top of legs. Back is gently patterned. Monster bill, slightly upcurved, black tip, pink/orange near base, on lower mandible. Slightly dark line projects forward from eye to base of bill, brighter above. Black legs. Active and continuous feeding. Seems to be completely unfazed by the screaming kids running around, a cricket match, heavy foot traffic between the playing fields and parking lot, and other disturbances. It will run, but has not flown. Found 100m west of the marsh"s observation deck, on the grass at the edge of the soccer fields. The plumage makes it easy to miss. Reported previously by many others; wonderful views.
