Observation details
One of two individuals initially reported on Friday, September 2nd, by Annie Owen and Richard Stuhr, a naturalist and boat captain with Coastal Expeditions after Hurricane Idalia passed through the general area earlier in the week. Found continuing in the northeast corner of Upper Summerhouse Pond some forty yards from Turkey Walk Trail which separates Upper and Lower Summerhouse Ponds. Tall, slender, pink bird with extremely long legs and neck. Primarily fed with head beneath the water during the two minutes or so it was viewed. When not foraging, neck was often held in “S” position. Base of bill was pale with dark pink on lower mandible beyond the bend and black at its tip.
