Observation details
I was paddling the islands when I heard a large plover flying in from the Golf Course area. I knew it was a large plover, but am not good at differentiating between them because I don't often get to hear them. As it approached, the bird was just back lit, whether it was dark sky or full sun, I couldn't get anything on it. It flew around several times before flying to the back of the lake. I took that opportunity to get my phone ready to record it if it came back. It did. I got a recording of about twelve calls, the first one Merlin immediately ID'd it as an American Golden-Plover. The last time I heard it, it was directly behind me. I never saw nor heard it again.
