Observation details
I flushed this bird from bushes underneath bald cypress along a bank of the Río Cuchujaqui while photographing odonates. The bird settled among low branches near the ground and allowed me to approach carefully within about 3-4 meters. Size and features are consistent with an immature Purple Gallinule: white rump feathers, buffy head-neck-chest, green-to-brown back, blue-purple tinted wings, bicolored bill with greenish outer half and reddish-brown base, dark bare skin extending from base of beak onto forehead, and dull brownish legs.
